Oculoplastic Surgery

Over time, gravity gradually affects all body tissues. The skin’s natural elasticity may decline, leading to drooping of the upper eyelids or loosening of the lower eyelids. This can cause the eyelids to turn inward or outward, potentially resulting in irritation, dryness of the ocular surface, or even loss of the upper part of the visual field.

An upper eyelid blepharoplasty—commonly referred to simply as a blepharoplasty—can improve the superior visual field and, in some cases, enhance visual acuity. As a secondary benefit, the procedure may also help patients appear more youthful.

MSP (Medical Services Plan) covers upper eyelid blepharoplasty when there is documented compromise of the visual field.

If the condition does not meet MSP criteria for coverage, a private-pay option is available for patients seeking an eyelid lift for functional or cosmetic reasons.
