Entropion and Ectropion

Entropion and ectropion are common eyelid conditions that affect the position of the eyelid against the eye. Both conditions are often age-related but can also result from scarring, previous surgery, or facial nerve weakness. They can be effectively corrected through surgery.

  • Entropion: The eyelid (usually the lower one) turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye. This can lead to irritation, redness, tearing, and risk of corneal damage.
  • Ectropion: The eyelid turns outward, away from the eye. This can expose the inner eyelid, leading to dryness, tearing, and discomfort.
