Colten is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with special interest in cataract and uveitis.  He has been serving the Fraser Valley since 2020.

Colten was born and raised outside of Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan on a fish farm.  He moved to Chilliwack prior to high school and was acepted into medical school at the University of British Columbia after completing three years of a Biochemistry degree at the University of Saskatchewan.  Upon receiving his medical degree with great distinction, he completed his 5 year ophthalmology residency at the University of British Columbia's Eye Care Centre.

Colten is board certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).  He has previously authored articles in the Archives of Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, and most recently, uveitis publications in cystoid macular edema post-cataract surgery.

Dr. Wendel excelled throughout his residency training program with the highest number of cataract surgies in the history of the University of British Columbia's residency program.

If there's one thing you need to know about Colten it's that he loves cataract surgery.  Whether he's reading up about the latest surgical techniques or newest intraocular lenses, he is near obsessive about cataract surgery and improving patient outcomes.  He is one of the highest volume cataract surgeons in Canada, and highest in the Lower mainland of BC.

Colten has won numerous awards, ncluding the Governor General's Bronze Medal in 2008, the George & Marth Ivy President's First Choice Scholarship, and the UBC Ophthalmology Research Award in 2018.  He is a member of the Doctors of BC, BCCPSC, AAO, COS, and BCSEPS.

Colten is an active role model to medical students and residents as a clinical instructor with the University of British Columbia, and soon to be Simon Fraser University medical school.  Colten and his wife have two boys, and one coonhound, and unfortunately, he is a Denver Broncos fan, which has provided some excellent ammunition for his patients to make fun of him - especially over the past 5 years!
